Do you ever have one of those days where are really excited about something then it just sort of gets shot down? Being a parent is HARD work. We bought a bunk bed for the girls - they did not know about it and daddy was picking it up after work tonight. Dawson and I cleaned out his room to make sure for his dresser in his and Carter's room (until now it has been in the girls room as there was just more room in there!). After we moved Dawson's dresser we moved the girls beds (temporarily) and their dressers ~ I was just telling them that I was "bored" with their room and that is why I was moving things around. Kendall had actually said to me "since you took Dawson's dresser out, now there is room for a bunk bed, maybe we can get one now?" Ha, little does she know! She had been telling everyone that she wanted a bunk bed. She told Santa. She told Hunter the Elf even! She also told Auntie Jen - she need a bunk bed for Christmas, she was getting too big for her little bed...her toes were hitting the end of her bed! Wish Auntie Jen would have bought her that bunk bed for Christmas! ;)

Anyway, I was really excited for them to see their beds. I knew that Kendall would be so excited and Reese would follow just because her sister was! It just became a chaotic night and that excitement sort of went away. I hate to feel that way. I hate that because it makes me feel like a bad parent. It is so frustrating. I am sure that part of it is that it has been a long week - Christmas x3 (Coleman's on the 24th, Nana and Pop-Pops on the 25th and with Gramps yesterday), everyone home from school, plus now a few of us are getting colds. Ugh.
There is so much clutter in the house right now - all the Christmas decorations (and it was like ~18 degrees this morning plus a frigid wind chill, think it was like ~40 degrees with the wind chill), the presents still waiting to find a home, and so on... It is driving me crazy. Where do I start? Where does it all go?
We let the girls go down in the basement to see the pieces to the bed. Kendall was super excited! Reese, as predicted, was excited too, but not sure she really knows what this means. Fast forward to bed time a short while later... this is when the chaos starts. We have been trying to let the girls go to sleep in their room together - Reese has been going to sleep in our room for the past few weeks then we move her into bed once we go to bed (for the past few years we had been moving Kendall, but since Reese was sick earlier in December she has wanted to sleep in our bed)...tonight this did not work so well. I was downstairs for about 15 or 20 minutes & when I came up, the girls were still farting around and it was about 9:40. ARGHHH! Then it was "I am thirsty, I need a Kleenex, I am scared." And the crying. It is now 10:30 and Reese just quieted down.
Then, Carter. Both Dave and I are frustrated with the playing of video games. Xbox, Wii, DS... while I think it is okay to play occassionally, if these kids don't play every day they get crabby about it. That happened tonight (not the first time) with Carter - he asked @ 9:45 if he could play Xbox. Daddy said that he was going to sit and watch a little TV. Carter was not happy with that. I said he could play tomorrow. That was not good either. Complaining started. Fine then you don't need to play tomorrow. Complain. Go get ready for bed. Ugh is said. Go get ready for bed. No. Then go get me your iPod. No - heads upstairs, unhappily & says "goodnight." You need to take a shower. You told me to go to bed. NO...I said go get ready for bed and taking a shower is part of getting ready for bed. UGH is said again. Takes a shower & proceeds to bed without saying goodnight.
I am VERY frustrated with the "no's" being said, the grunts & groans, the complaining, and so on. I know that they are kids, but kids have to do things that they don't always want to do. I know, I know. Bad mom. But, they are going to learn that things don't just come to you, sometimes you have to do things to get them. My cousin once said that her house is run like a business. Everyone has a "position" in that family and without that person, the company might not make it. Everyone needs to make the company "work." How does one get their family on board with this, or any other "family improvement program?" Implementing it is the hard part... going to have to look into that more and give the kids their "position/job" in this family. Mom and Dad cannot do it all (come on, why do you think we had you!?). We need help too!
Ahhh... feels good to vent a little!
